Changes!!

Hello My Favorite People!

So It’s 2015, and This week I come to my 15 month mark, which is super scary and I am in denial.
Tender subject.

Also, It’s the week before transfers. So if you send me a letter or package or anything, make sure it can get here before Monday, because we receive transfer calls on Monday. So I’d be sad if I was transferred and didn’t get a letter from ya because it was left in Arlington.

we have almost 30 missionaries leaving from our mission this transfer and our mission only has 160 missionaries as is…so we are getting SO small. and we only have 1 missionary coming in…and then in February we have 32 missionaries leaving and then it’s my time to come home and we have like 22 or something leaving….So our mission is getting SO small!!
So President said that in many wards we are only going to have senior couples and in many companionship’s they will be covering over 2 wards…which in Utah isn’t hard…but here where towns are like here and there….it’ll be a big change.

Speaking of transfers….am I going to go or stay? If I go, it’ll probably be my last move, because I only have 12 weeks left. And if I stay….I’ll probably die here. So I’m pretty cool with either..>i am here to serve the Lord 🙂

Also. RJ has his Baptism interview this week! And then he will be baptized on the 17th…I am so blessed that I have had at least 1 baptism each transfer of my mission.
RJ’s brother is funny….he’s super into conspiracy theories….the latest is that we are going to melt from radiation. I’m not afraid of death….

This week, our diligence as a companionship was much better. Still room for improvement.

But hey….it’s PDAY! I mean….Preparation Day. (white handbook)
So I’m going to have a great day and yeah…..

Anywho…LOVE YOU ALL!

Happy Pre-2015

Happy Pre New Years!!!

Can you believe it’s almost 2015….
Seriously…is the 2nd coming ever going to come.
Pray with me people.

Any-who, Christmas was awesome!
it was so good to see my family and It was more exciting because I’ll see you face to face in no time at all!

Any-who….Things are going good. President William (stake Pres) showed up to our meetings on Sunday…and in his meeting with Bishop something must have happened because Bishop looked like a deer in the headlights.

Nothing much exciting happened in the area. Besides we had a mission wide car fast and we walked 1,000,000,000 miles.
its okay. blessings come right?

Anywho, LOVE YOU LONG TIME!

Hopefully this next week will be a little more exciting.

1. Almost all out of Lactose pills….

Mary

Dear Loved ones,

This week was really good! Actually….it ended good. we won’t go into the other details.

Hey, did you know that it’s freeeezing up here, yup. cool huh.

But This week something crazy happened.

I got really ill (seems like a rollercoster with me)
But I couldn’t keep any food down all week and by Saturday/Sunday I was so tired and hungry and going crazy. That I finally talked to someone and they talked to someone and I received a call this morning from a doctor in Spokane who gave me some instructions and I have to be really careful this week and then if things progress I’ll be going to a doctor somewhere to get checked for my blood count levels/sugar/whatever else.. So prayers would be nice. no mom….don’t worry. I’m a missionary, I’m invincible right? and no you don’t need to call the mission office. I’m okay. I’m just sad that I have to give away those chocolates you just sent me.
Speaking of giving things away……There is this family in a ward, a single mom and 3 teenage girls who aren’t going to be having much of a Christmas (even thought I know that it’s not about gifts) I still wanted them to have a Christmas of some sort. She doesn’t have a job, the girls are in highschool, one of them is deaf and we were over for dinner and I was hearing the girls write what they wanted and all they wanted was CLOTHES! sounds like teenage girls right?
I knew the mom couldn’t afford it, So I told one of the girls that I had some clothes she could have, she got so excited and I promised her I would bring them on Sunday.
So after planning that night I started going through my clothes…one by one I thought “they would love this…” Pretty soon I had 2 good sized bags of clothes…
I went through the clothes again and thought…”man I really love this shirt….etc.. but then I thought of the girls that It would be going to and the true need that was there. That was all the motivation I needed. So without a second thought I tied up the bags and on Sunday I gave them to the girls and they loved them! one of them gave me the biggest hug 3x over and said THANK YOU SO MUCH SISTER LYMAN… I cant tell you how much I needed these. So I guess that helped me really give. and one that note….Sister Solosko and I are going to the outlet mall today.
mom…dad….its christmas right? haha.
We also had interviews with the President Bonham this week, he is awesome. Love the guy, he’s like my dad out here and the older I get as a missionary, the more I see the true inspiration he receives.
Then as a Relief Society activity we had “Christmas in Darrington” where we did the nativity through the eyes of the women….where we had for example Marys mom….Joesph’s mom and other wonderful woman from that time. I was asked to be Mary….
As I read the script I thought ” this is talking about motherhood…i’m not a mom…”
But I had a beautiful blue thing draped over me and I read my part and I felt the spirit so strongly. Then after I had a group of the women come up to me and Sister Olsen said “Sister Lyman, as soon as you stood up…I thought that I was really seeing Mary. I had an impression that If he chose anyone from this room to be the mother of Jesus…he would’ve chosen you…” I started to cry and she started to cry…we were all crying. That was the most tender thing I had ever been told. Not to mention I made like 3 dozen crepes for the activity.

SAM_1978SAM_1980
Also this week, We had the last cottage mtg at the mission home. We were lucky enough to get to go! lucky us! It was a very small cottage meeting, and Sister Solosko and I were asked to play a musical number. Then we were asked to play for the mission Christmas devotional this upcoming monday….Im pretty nervous.
So this upcoming Monday (the 21st) we will probably be emailing in the afternoon. Hopefully we get to email. Then we get to face-time a few days after that!

So Lets talk about why all missionaries need AAA.

A couple days ago….in the middle of the woods(for real though) I locked the keys in the trunk.
Yup. No one in the ward could help us….911 told us they didn’t have the tools to help us….SO we had the call the Assistants and they had to drive all the up and find us….only to go “Drum-roll….*beep beep* pop the trunk…:
We stood outside for a good 1 1/2 hour. And I felt so bad.
I guess there are still things I need to learn.

Anywho, Im good. LOVE YOU ALL.

Love, me!

HELLO WORLD

Hello my dearest people,

Well this week, has been awesome.

Yes, I have a new companion, and I’m still here In Arlington WA.

My new Companions name is Sister Solosk ( Suh-lo-sko) from Texas!
Yup, I got myself another Texan! She has just hit her 10 month mark.

SAM_1977

Well this week was just like any other first week of the transfer with a new companion. A lot of driving through different parts of the areas to help Sister Solosko learn the areas, investigators and members and situations etc.

We are still really struggling with our WML.
But we are being very patient and we are doing all we can to work around his limitations and schedule.
Over the past few weeks I have been praying and pondering very intensely how we as missionaries and how our WML can unify in the salvation of souls, then I had an idea.
I cleared it with the Bishop and the Stake High Councilor over missionary work. Then we met with the Elders in our ward and I talked to them about this Idea.
It seemed to me that in our ward, they were calling new ward missionaries and just throwing them into all of our meetings without any explanation or training and what not. Often these newly called people would come up to me and say “So what do I do exactly? Do I just go out with you…do I speak in lessons? Do I share things?….Do you call me…or I call you?
Also, our WML is really struggling with understanding our key indicators/standards and why we have them.
So I thought about going against the currant…and how that never works (unless your crush the turtle) So what are we going to do…we are going to inspire our WML and Ward Missionaries!
We are organizing a little seminar! and we are going to go over our key indicators and the tools we use to set goals each week. Why we set goals, what the goals mean, what the numbers truly represent, and how they help us (or how we work together) to achieve these standard key indicators. Also, the Progress record and how those things we write each week in the ‘help needed’ box represent things that we as missionaries can’t do by ourselves. We rely on the Ward to help us. Because this church of Christ will always be a missionary church, that includes full time and members.
So this week has been great! We had a great lesson with RJ, and he accepted a baptism date of Jan 17.
He comes from a part member family, and it’s so great to see a family unite in the truths of the gospel.

Anywho…..Im doing great. yup.
today I’m treating myself to some panda express. yup.

LOVE YOU ALL!
p.s. can I have a cool calculator watch for Christmas? I’m being dead serious. love you all.

Sister Solosko and I.

Hey. Did you know its my Birthday?

Hey Dearest people…

Hey. DId you know that it’s my birthday. DId you know that i’m a whopping 23 years of age. Yup for 23 years I have been mortal. weird.

This week was pretty cool. But it was for sure one of the saddest, happiest, craziest weeks of my entire mission.
We packed and packed and sent stuff home and got Sister Sinclair all ready for home. I didn’t think it’d be that hard to send home a companion….but it was a great learning experience for me. and heeey….only 18 more weeks untill Sister Sinclair and I can be real friends.

Oh and…..it snowed. yup. s-n-o-w. But it was beautiful.
We forgot that Sister Sinclair had packed all of her winter stuff and/or had mailed it home. So she froze…..I felt so bad.

How was your thanksgiving? Mine was great….we spent a lot of the day packing and then we went to the Dicksons for Dinner….it is always such a treat to see a family and grandkids and parents running around and telling stories….it makes me excited to be with my family next year.
Then we went home and just packed and planned.

Georgia doing great….we moved her baptismal date to January, she is overcoming a lot of things right now and is doing really well, she came to church on Sunday and cried all through sacrament because she had to say goodbye to S. Sinclair.

ALso….guess what. its my birthday! Sister Lawson made me a wonderful breakfast today and an obstacle course that i had to get through.

So my pday will be Next Tuesday…look below. Also, I send a package home with all my spanish stuff and stuff. keep an eye out.

Also a little blurp from the mission to you all….i’ll just have President Bonham explain better than I can……” I spoke today with Elder Craig A. Cardon of the Seventy, who will be touring our mission December 8 and 9 at the direction of President Packer. The north half of the mission will have a multi-zone conference with Elder Cardon on Monday, December 8 (preparation day the following day on Tuesday–warn your families now about delayed letters)”

Can I tell you how hard it is to take a decent district picture?
last night with sister sinclair.

Beautiful baptism

DEAR WORLD,

This week was awesome and rainy!

This Saturday Anne was baptized!

She is so sweet and has been so blessed with protection from the adversary and what not.
On Saturday our Ward Mission Leader went to the church a couple hours early to fill the font and so we arrived a little past 4 to make sure everything was ready. Anne showed up with us, she was so early and so excited. We decided to show her the font and everything….and to our surprise it wasn’t even filling.

O_o

So we all started filling coolers and trashcans ( yes huge trash cans) full of water and dumping them into the font. As ward members showed up they started helping us. As we were all filling the font, something happened and all of the water in the building turned brown. So eventually we filled the font and had a beautiful program. Anne is my only investigator that has filled her own font….that means shes pretty solid right? ha. So Anne was baptized in warm brown water.

This week was pretty good, this is Sister Sinclairs last week in the mission. She fly’s home next Monday….my birthday….yup.
So I will join another companionship for my birthday :/ The things I do because I love the Lord. Just kidding I love all these sisters.

So this week is going to be different.

Sorry this email is short….today isn’t really pday…not until Thursday.

But I still love you all!

Sister Lyman

Freezing, with a chance of flu

Dear Loved ones,

This week was awesome!

Good news first….ANNE PASSED HER BAPTISM INTERVIEW!
So we are going to have a baptism this Saturday!
Ann is doing so well and she wants to go to the temple so bad that she somehow ended up in Temple Prep class yesterday….we were looking all over for her and we see her in the temple prep class and I look and Sister Sinclair and say “are investigators allowed to go to temple prep before they’re baptized?” haha. But she is solid. yay! This is the greatest blessing ever!

This week I got sick. well…yeah…I guess I have some lympnode thingy that isn’t doing its job…and it’s only my right side so I can’t hear or breath. But whatever, I don’t have time for this. But it’s slowed us down this week because IM SO TIRED.
Also, wanna know something I learned this week? You can’t take sudaffed at night time…I did and I only slept for 3 hours on Saturday night and I about died. Dr. Tate (mission doc) told me he did that one time too. I guess you learn as you go.

Georgia is still progressing…just a little slower. Her baptism is scheduled for Nov 29. But she isn’t being as proactive and needs to be in keeping commitments and so forth…so we will see what happens.

This week us and the Elders got asked to help demo a mobile home haha. We had no Idea what we were really doing but it was fun!

Did you know in 15 days I only have 18 weeks left.
Did you know there are only like 15 days until my birthday!!
Did you know there are only like 15 days until my companion fly’s home 😦
So on that note…I have no Idea where I will be emailing from on my birthday.

Also, Next week is the week of thanksgiving. We don’t have pday on Monday. But we get 1 hour of Email time next Monday. Im assuming we will email in the morning like normal, but we only get an hour.
Then our pday is moved to thanksgiving 😦

Sorry this email is short.
what do ya do.

Love you! Love me! Love this gospel!

write me?
Love Sista Lyman

when your tired/ sick. you sleep whever possible. even on the floor at church.

Blessings

Hello from cold, wet, grey skied Washington!

So for the past week, it’s rained err’y day here.
And, now it’s dark at 5pm. cool beans.
but I. AM. STILL. HAPPY. :)<—–we are required to take 2,000IUs of Vitamin each day.

So this week was awesome! We had zone conference and because we are the only sisters in the zone, we are pretty quiet…we were reviewing the requirements for baptism and President Bonham says ” I see the Sisters taking notes over there….but I’d really like to hear from you…” awkward.
So I guess he really wanted us to participate….later in the meeting after we got back from a break we were called on the give a talk on our favorite Book of Mormon Hero….President really wanted us to participate. We also got to watch Meet the Mormons….AWESOME! I loved it! Sister Bonham made us all popcorn…I felt so weird watching a movie.

We also went bowling for our District Pday….we went to the only bowling ally and then we saw that it was ancient. zero technology….and since none of us had done math in over a year…..and now we had to score by hand…I ended up just going with how many gutter balls I got….I pretty positive I won. yay! But it was actually fun to have no computers and what not.

Ann is progressing like crazy! She is getting baptized November 22 and she is so excited! She has read the Book of Mormon like a champ and she even came to stake conference.
Speaking of stake conference…the Stake Presidency of the Arlington Stake was reorganized yesterday….we had some general authority from Germany there, and another from Salt lake. It was so good. The theme they spoke on was hastening the work and how from technology to the scriptures…everything is hastening!

Also, I finally got my new glasses, so I can see now! I was like “sister! I didn’t know you could see individual branches on trees!”….apparently…I’ve been missing out.

How was Halloween? We had a very eventful Halloween…..our ward had the classic trunk or treat and I was a cat and sister sinclair and I were twins…it was great. We judged the chili cook off and our investigator Ann ended up winning (crazzzy) and then we ate candy. I guess earlier that morning, the Elders were doing a service projects and they were throwing wood down a line of people….Elder Potter threw some wood at Elder Christensen and ended up cutting a hole….Elder Christensen came with the coolest costume….stitches in his lip….everyone thought it was fake. I told him to be careful that night because I heard that people were throwing wood at everyone with the last name Christensen.

This week was awesome. Such a good week.
I love my mission. I love being a missionary. I don’t know if I could be a missionary like Ammon who served his mission for 14 years…but I do want my converts to be like the people of Ammon. In the BOM it says that none of his people ever fell away. How cool.
And like Nephi…the Lord instructed him to build a ship “So how then can the Lord not instruct me…”

Keep being awesome member missionaries and do all you can to invite others to come unto Christ!

Here’s some of my attempt to carve a stencil pumkin….I’m the most impatient person…SO I we retracted back to the classic jack.
Sister sinclair rocked her pumkin though!
(The elders did a trunk and wrote fake “dear john” letters….each letter ended with “whitney” and “Sydney”….our first names….
elders think they are soooo funny.
